Brij Mohan (36), a hosiery shop owner in a busy Delhi market, desperately wants to change his life. He is fed up of his ball-crusher wife and mounting debts. In order to escape his wretched life, he changes his appearance and adopts a new identity as Amar Sethi, but ends up committing a botched up murder. Amidst these confessions the avalanche of family and friends falls on them, among them is Jairo, the father of her children, a typical 30 year old street wise Dominican who looks at him with jealousy. What Juanita did not confess to Mariano is that she has allowed Jairo to stay at her house to help with the children. Juanita and Mariano, who while being in Spain clung to each other like two castaways to a raft, will try not to drown in Santo Domingo.

Summer 1989, East Germany. Adam works as a tailor, Evelyn as a waitress. They are planning a vacation together when Evelyn finds out that Adam is cheating on her and decides to leave for the holiday on her own. She travels to Hungary, trailed by Adam. As the border with Austria falls, everything changes in Hungary. The frontiers are open, as the new possibilities for Adam and Evelyn to decide in which world – Eastern or Western – they want to build a happy life. Adam und Evelyn is based on the homonymous novel by Ingo Schulze, translated in more than ten languages.
